A leading international manufacturer of commercial meat slicers was looking to make a distinctive design statement on a new line of slicers. Historically, commercial slicer bases have been made of cast aluminum. The metal bases also, historically, had issues with porosity, cleanliness and corrosion. Converting the Base material to Thermoset Composite solved these issues. The base of the product part is now manufactured by CCI replacing extensive machining operations on the prior cast aluminum product. Realized cost savings are over 50%. The Composite materials available for Food Equipment are not affected by harsh cleaning chemicals or by the corrosive acids and enzymes found in foods. They are also at home in the temperature ranges common to food preparation. Overall, Thermoset Composites are a great selection to replace metal in food preparation devices.
